"There is so much to learn in art, to experiment with,
to discover, and to enjoy!"
A native of Michigan, Barbara received a B.S. in Design from the University of Michigan and did graduate work at U. of M., Saginaw State University, and Center for Creative Studies. As well as teaching high school art, she was also Dean of Students and Assistant Principal which limited her time for personal artistic endeavors She had a Calligraphy Studio and did numerous commissions for area businesses and individuals as well as teaching adult education art classes and being guest lecturer at various community meetings.
Since her move to Hilton Head in 1997, when she and her husband both retired, she has had much more time to pursue her own interests and has taken workshops with many nationally known artists through the Hilton Head Art League Program. Oil and pastel are current favorites although much of her past work has been done in clay, watercolor and acrylic. A weaving loom occupies a special spot in her studio. She still does many calligraphy commissions. Barbara has been on the Board of Directors of the Hilton Head Art League and displays regularly at the Art League Gallery. She is a member Southeastern Pastel Society, Society of Bluffton Artists, Beaufort Art Assiciation, the Lowcountry Artists and Maye River Gallery. She has had work accepted into both the Southeastern Pastel Society Member Juried Show and the Hilton Head Art League Juried Show and was a Showcase Artist in 2002 and 2009. A dream that began in 1969 with her first visit to the island has finally come true with being able to live on this wonderful island.
